Long lost Sandy and her CUREchief Excitement!
Last Updated:01/28/2008 10:10 PM

OK Everyone...I know you must be in shock to finally hear from me!!

At the end of 2007, ( November 3rd) we had a great event, a  magical evening- as we celebrated our 7th year CUREchief Anniversary, and our 100,000th CUREchief. It was amazing, and many thanks to all who participated.

It's a brand new year...2008, and off to so much excitement!

The CUREchief Foundation started the year with a brand new headquarters/CUREchief Volunteer Center...it's in the same building but on the 3rd floor, I call it the "CUREchief Castle" , it's awesome!  We will be having a grand opening, open house celebration very soon so check back!

As most of you have been seeing it, we have a local PSA on WFSB!  Many thanks to Rebecca Lobo and her mom RuthAnn who are officially launching our new cause marketing and very charming idea...our trademark "Piece of Hope"!  It's going to be a huge success, and has already begun to spread throughout Connecticut!  We are currently recruiting groups to participate in our Piece of Hope Fundraiser, where they can help us raise awareness and raise money for thier own cause at the same time!  We are also looking for local businesses and corporations to sponsor Piece of Hope..thanks to Aetna for being our very first!

Oh I almost forgot....we are in the planning stages of organizing our 2nd Annual United Cleaning Golf Tournament to benefit the CUREchief Foundation, it will take place on May 12th~ at the Farms Country Club in Wallingford CT.

Congrats to  Charmaine and Joe Emond and their IHOM Parish Family in Harwinton CT. for celebrating their 3rd year of dedicated service to CUREchief...and the making of thier 40,000th CUREchief.  You guys ROCK!  Bless you all~

Happy and Healthy New Year and may 2008 be the year that CUREchief makes it's mark around the world!  WE NEED ALL OF YOU to help us spread the HOPE~

Warm & Fuzzy Wishes to all~

Hi Everyone!

It has been such a long time since my last blog entry!

I hope you are all doing well and getting ready to enjoy your summer~ It is June and officially declared CUREchief Month in the State of Connecticut for our third year, we are gearing up to make our way around the state this week.  We will be delivering over 5000 CUREchiefs this month, and want to especially thank our CUREchief Month sponsors who help make this all possible, they are Aetna and United Cleaning and Restoration.

Thanks to both of them once again, Aetna and UCR- along with Yale New Haven Hospital, Vitas and New England Steamway who were our major sponsors our Golf Tournament last May.  The tournament was an amazing success, again helping us touch thousands of lives and spreading awareness of our mission.  Save the date next May 12, 2008!

Keep checking back for some very exciting plans for this fall, it's all a big secret now, we like to keep it a mystery!

Take care and be well~

March Madness
Last Updated:03/08/2007 11:11 PM

Hey Everyone!

I have been out of touch for a while...so I want to bring you all up to date.

It's been March Madness with CUREchief !  So many great things have been happening.  We are planning our upcoming Golf Tournment to take place on May 14th.  We are honored to be chosen by an awesome company- United Cleaning and Restoration who will be hosting the tournament for our benefit 100%.

We are working on some great plans with potential large corporate partners, and hope to announce soon some very exciting plans for spring/summer 2007.

We are also getting ready to launch our "Piece of HOPE" campaign here in Connecticut and can't wait to tell you who will be promoting it!   Check back soon, I love to keep people in suspense!

We are planning a visit to Hawley Lane Shoes in Shelton this Month, remember that in December and January...Mark, JoAnn and the awesome team of employees worked with us in promoting CUREchief...they sold boots to benefit us-the campaign was called "Comforting people from head to toe".. Well we will be receiving one of those "giant checks"...get ready...the total of their generous donation will be $7415.00.   We are so fortunate to have found this great company, and their support is amazing.

So for now I think that's enough updates...can I ask for a few things...???   I was wondering if anyone has old costume jewerly such as bracelets, necklaces etc that we can use, we would like to take them apart to use the beads.  We are also in need of art supplies to make Message of Hope Cards, we could use markers, stickers, fun stamps and ink.  If anyone would like to donate these items we would really appreciate it.  You can send them to us at: PO BOX 1337 Cheshire, Ct 06410

Spring is around the corner...so be happy!

Warm & Fuzzy Wishes Always,

Sandy

OOPS>>>

PS  I forgot to tell you I  received a call from New Haven Business Times today and I am honored to have be selected as one of the "20 Noteworthy Women" of 2007! Thanks to my cheerleaders at the chamber...I am touched~

Heartwarming Story from Charmaine
Last Updated:02/04/2007 3:03 PM

The other day I received a very emotioinal email from my friend and dedicated volunteer Charmaine...she told me that she was a guest speaker the other day at a rotary meeting in Torrington CT.

She was invited to speak about the wonderful things she is involved in and "CUREchief" is one of them.  After she gave her presentation she answered questions and took comments from the audience.

One gentleman shared with her a story..."another use for a CUREchief"...

He said "as my daughter was diagonosed with leukemia last year.  When she was being treated she received a CUREchief to wear.  She was different from most children who were losing their hair, because she liked to be bald.  Instead of wearing her CUREchief on her head, she placed it on her shoulders, she would then run around the house saying I am a SUPER GIRL".

Once the meeting ended the father approached Charmaine again, and shared with her that because his daughter thought she was a SUPER GIRL it made her feel strong.  This feeling has helped her battle cancer.  She is still fighting the cancer but not as a small scared little girl, as a SUPER GIRL!  He wated to thank me and give me a hug for the work that we all do for the CUREchief Foundation.

It's stories like this one from Charmaine that keep me inspired every day!  The amazing power of our small triangle of fabric that we call a "CUREchief"~

Charmaine thank you for all that you do, and for sharing this for the world to read~

2007 off to a great beginning!
Last Updated:01/25/2007 12:12 AM

The year began with a phone call telling me that I had been selected as Connecticut's "Everyday Hero" by WFSB-Chan 3.  I was so honored and excited.  What a great feeling knowing that I am considered a hero by just simply doing what I am so passionate about...something I love...bringing HOPE to those that need it most.  I can only do what I do,  because I have so much support from volunteers, family,  friends and sponsors.   All of you are such a huge part in the CUREchief success stories everyday~

After that call , I got a 2nd call from Jim O'Rourke at The YMCA in Cheshire to inform me that I was selected as the YMCA "Unsung Hero" this award  will take place in March. WOW!!! I am overwhelmed with excitement.

I am very proud to be an Everyday Hero and an Unsung Hero,  but I am even more proud of all of you. I couldn't do it without you!  Have Faith that great things will be happening in 2007!

It's Sandy...I just had to write to tell all of you about the amazing people at

The Hawley Lane Shoe Store in Shelton Connecticut.  I have had such a great experience the last three days.  I have had an opportunity to gift wrap for customers, collect donations and spread the word of "CUREchief" to the hundreds of customers that come through the doors!  and it get's better...Hawley Lane will be donating $5 for every pair of winter boots that they sell for the months of December and January!..and they are selling so many BOOTS!!!

I am so impressed by the owners and staff there, words cannot express the feelings I get when I am in the store.  It is just a pleasure to be associated with such a great business.  Many thanks to Michael Wrubel the General Manager, Mark Kaminski Vice President , and the owners Bob and David for making this all possible.

Special Thanks to Joanne Sauro for organizing our display and having this great idea of gift wrapping!  Joanne...your amazing!!!!

We will be set up for the next coming weekends, and look forward to all the excitement next week!  Have a great Holiday Season to ALL~

What you are comes to you-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Last Updated:10/25/2006 9:09 PM

Hello CUREchief Friends!

It has been a very busy fall... lots of new volunteers and CUREchief deliveries, meeting new groups, speaking at events and telling my CUREchief story wherever I go.

I feel truly blessed to be able to do what I am doing and totally love it!   I feel everyday that what I do just came to me for a reason.  We try so hard to figure out what we should be doing in life sometime...and what we are- comes right to us~

When my friend Patti called me over 6 years ago to tell me that she was diagnosed with cancer, who would of thought that her ilness would make me who I am today..as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: "What you are comes to you".

CUREchief's Birthday is coming up in November, it's been 6 wonderful years since my daughters Steph & Allie inspired me to begin our mission. Delivering Hope to those worldwide is amazing.. and how we are touching lives by sending just a simple triangle of fabric.. that we named a CUREchief.. now how cool is that!?

Everyday people are put in my path for a reason. I cannot explain it, it just happens.

To all of you reading, be Genuine, Have Faith and Believe in what you are, especially when you are doing what makes you happy.

My hopes for 2007 that we bring the CUREchief Foundation to the next level~

I would love to meet Oprah Winfrey, now she would be a great person to have on my team!

Warm & Fuzzy Wishes to ALL!

Sandy

CUREchief Visits The Red Sox!
Last Updated:08/04/2006 7:07 PM

Hello CUREchief Friends!

What you've all been waiting for....the news on our amazing Boston visit!  On August 2nd the CUREchief Foundation was honored by the Boston Red Sox!  (by the way, it's our second time, last was on September 16th 2004)  On Wednesday we travelled to Massachusetts, my family along with Travis and his family showed up at the Dana Farber Cancer Center's Jimmy Fund at 1pm, where we met Wally the Green Monster.  We made some deliveries of special "Red Sox" CUREchiefs to the kids in the clinic. It was such a joy to witness the faces of the kids when they opened their CUREchiefs.

We then  headed over to the park and took a  tour of Fenway  we all got to watch batting practice, oh by the way, it was 105 degrees, the hottest day of my life! We were then special guests on the field where both families stood proud as the announcer read our CUREchief Script to over 38,000 fans telling them about our mission. Wow, this was such a rush, we were actually on the jumbo-tron screen!!!  Travis, my new friend, who I met at Connecticut Children's Medical Center last June  was our special guest, he received the royal treatment, he was handed a Red Sox goodie bag and got to meet the pitching coach Dave Wallace in the clubhouse!

Thanks to the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund for making our trip to Boston one to remember for a lifetime~

CUREchief Bus Stops in Connecticut
Last Updated:06/23/2006 9:09 PM

Hello Again...more news on Thursday & Friday CUREchief Tour Bus Deliveries.

Thursday we made it to 7 Hospitals, beginning at the Yale New Haven Hospital-our major sponsor for the RockCats event,  by the end of the day we were at Norwalk Hospital, it was so hot getting in and out of the bus making all of the stops, but totally worth it!   It was so nice to get greeted by and meet so many people receiving CUREchiefs.  We heard so many nice comments about the CUREchiefs and how much the patients love them.

On Friday morning we arrived at The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, we were all invited to have breakfast with the children and counselors.  What a great experience this was!  The food was awesome...after breakfast,  we were announced by Sarah,it was so cool -the campers begin to cheer and sing for us, it gave me goose bumps!

Steph, Allie, Val and I then piled up 100's of CUREchiefs on the floor of the dining hall when all of the counselors grabbed CUREchiefs for their campers~ and then the entire dining hall was filled with  "Campers in CUREchiefs!"  What an awesome morning...it's this kind of stuff that keeps my passion and energy so strong for what I do!  Thanks to Hole in The Wall for having us~  We made several more stops, making our last stop, the HOPE Clinic in Bristol.

I will be adding the photos that we took to the site's photo gallery soon!  So check back!

Thanks again to our sponsors for the CUREchief Bus and Rock Cats for helping us make this past week a great success!  Dattco Bus, you guys are great!  Our driver James was awesome!

CUREchief Bus Deliveries in Connecticut
Last Updated:06/21/2006 11:11 PM

Our first day of our CUREchief Month Bus Deliveries to patients in Connecticut.

I would like to share with you what happened today when we visited and dropped off CUREchiefs to several hospitals in Connecticut...first of all , many thanks to our bus sponsors that helped make this possible:  Dattco, VITAS, Yale New Haven Haven Hospital, State Farm Insurance, Walmart, the Rock Cats and XL Color!

We began at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, it was great to be greeted by Fox 61 and Chris Boyle from CCMC, we then visited with some children and Christine Tatem who helped us deliver hope and comfort to many children.  It was so rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of the children and also to witness the joy that my daughters Steph and Allie and their friends Val and Teresa got when they made a visit.

We then traveled around to the hospitals in the Hartford area, and made our way to the Harold Leever Cancer Center and Mid State Medical Center was our last stop of the day.

Oh I forgot, we also made a stop by to visit the folks at VITAS in Middlebury, one of our major sponsors!  The group of VITAS employees greeted us and were very excited to see their logo on the CUREchief bus!  It was so great to meet this group of wonderful dedicated volunteers and supporters.   Cathi, Teresa and the gang , have been delivering CUREchiefs throughout Connecticut for sevearal months now to people that they visit.

We met an amazing woman at the Hartford Hospital named Donna.  She told me that she has worn CUREchiefs for years and loves them!  She shared with us her story and once again I was so touched to see my daughters and their friends listening to her and knowing that when they left they felt like they are really touching people's lives in a special way.

Our driver James at Dattco was awesome,  and it was such a great experience today.

I will try to check back tomorrow to let you all know what happens on day 2!

For now...... I'll say.... GOODNIGHT!

Relay for Life in Cheshire Connecticut
Last Updated:06/10/2006 2:02 PM

I just got back from an amazing event, called Relay for Life, right here in my hometown of Cheshire.  I was able to set up a tent right on the track, and witness the thousands of dedicated supporters walking for their friends and loved ones. My two days  at Relay were dedicated to My Aunt Chris and my dear friend Ruth Ann.

It was amazing!  I invited people of all ages over to assist me in creating Message Of Hope Greeting Cards that are packed in the CUREchiefs we send around the world~ I collected thosands of cards, they were awesome!  We also gave away CUREchiefs to the survivors and those that created a Message of HOPE.

It was a pleasure to meet and speak with Chris Berman of ESPN, he spoke about how we are all on the same team, when it comes to fighting cancer.  He was proud to hear that the CUREchief Foundation all started in his home town of Cheshire CT!

I spoke with so many people that stopped by,  and it was so cool to hear that they all remembered me from over 5 years ago when we handed out over 4000 CUREchiefs to every particpant at Relay!  It was also nice to meet and chat with so many visitors from other States, that will now be spreading the CUREchief word!

Well I think I will take a rest  now since I haven't slept too much in the last 24 hours!

These men do so many great things in the community, they all made me feel so welcome and proud. (especially to be an Italian!)

I was so impressed with the club and the friendship between members, and their mission.  The grant we received  from Amity is a lead gift for the re-designed website, that we are so proud of!  Thanks to the crew at Carrot web design LLC of Hamden for an outstanding job and the men at the Amity Club.  A special thanks to Tony R.and Frank D. your're the best!

Last Updated:05/30/2006 9:09 PM

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Weekend.

Last week I was so proud to accept a very gererous grant on behalf of my dear friend and dedicated volunteer Judith Lackey of Aetna.  Judy was selected among hundreds of her peers at Aetna for the "Voice of Conscience Award".  WOW, I was amazed at what I witnessed that day! Her family, and co-workers honoring such a great lady!

I am so proud to have Judy on our team, and was thrilled to have taken part in this special day, I was asked to say a few words, which came right from the heart. It was a wonderful day~

On Sunday, the CUREchief Foundation was able to take part in our own Cheshire Connecticut Parade!  A huge thanks to our friends at Executive Auto Group for donating the most awesome convertible for the event, and thanks to Joe M. for making it happen!  As we rode down Route 10, in our decorated CUREchief mobile, and heard people cheering and clapping, it made me so proud to know that the CUREchief was discovered,  right her in Cheshire, almost 6 years ago!  We tossed CUREchiefs to the crowd as we cruised and waved to the thousands watching, it was so cool!

We are now excited about Thursday June 1st, don't forget to drop by and check out our booth at the XPO in Hartford at the Convention Center we are at  booth #523.

June will be such a busy month, Gov. Rell has made it official "CUREchief Month" in Connecticut!

Lot's of activites and visits, I will keep you posted...and don't forget JUNE 28th will be a fun night- and our 3rd Annual Night at the Rock Cats in New Britain CT. Check out the website home page for information and to purchase tickets. Hope to see you all at the game!

Sad to hear news of Tiger's Dad
Last Updated:05/09/2006 7:07 AM

I was sad to hear from my husband tonight that Tiger Wood's dad had lost his battle with cancer.
I was actually planning on sending his dad  a Golf Themed CUREchief to cheer him up. I only wish it would of got to him in time.
Every day it seems that I hear in the news about someone else affected by this scary disease.

I am so over joyed as I think about how our CUREchief Team/Family is sending HOPE to those who might be losing theirs.  The CUREchief is such a blessing.  We need to band together and network so we can reach around the WORLD!

Tiger's dad Earl once said:

"It's about dreaming, and then taking steps in your life to achieve those dreams. It is about overcoming obstacles and stereotypes, such as bigotry and prejudice. Life is about giving and about sharing and caring for others, standing up and being counted for what you believe in, being a spokesperson and a role model, and being an inspiration."
WOW!!!  I really thought this was so touching~

My newest quote is "You never know how or when you might touch another life"
We cannot touch another life unless we take time to give, share and care~

Twenty Thousand CUREchiefs and two amazing volunteers!
Last Updated:05/01/2006 9:09 PM

In just a few short weeks on May 20th, Charmaine and Joe Emond and thier army of almost 200 parish volunteers will be packaging up the 20,000 th   CUREchief!  For the past 16 months , starting with a handful of CCD students,  at the Imaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Harwinton CT. it  has  turned  into a fun filled family day, including themed buffets, laughs and lots of fellowship... these two amazing volunteers "Charmaine and Joe" are such an inspiration to me and our organization.  We are so honored to have both of them on our CUREchief team!

My friend Judy Lackey
Last Updated:04/29/2006 3:03 PM

Today I was delighted to hear some great news from my friend Judy Lackey!

I would like to tell you  about Judy… she has volunteered for the CUREchief Foundation for several years.  Inspired by her mother's battle with breast cancer, Judy has walked hundreds of miles, raised thousands of dollars, and sewn countless CUREchiefs.

Judy has been such a great advocate for the CUREchief Foundation, she is a true gem!

Judy is a  senior project manager for Aetna in Middletown,  and was selected as the winner of the 2006 Voice of Conscience Employee Award.

Judy has selected The CUREchief Foundation as one of her charities of choice, and we will be receiving a generous grant in her name, in May.

Arthur Ashe once said, "From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life." Judy has, indeed, made a magnificent life -- and enhanced the lives of many others.

Thank you Judy for all that you do to bring HOPE to those with cancer, and for your unending support.   I am very proud to have you on our team!

CUREchief News

It's Sandy, the co-Founder of the CUREchief Foundation...

I am thrilled to have this opportunity to tell all of you about the amazing things happening with the CUREchief Foundation.

I am proud to announce that since November of 2000 when the first CUREchief was sent to my friend Patti, we have made and delivered  80,000 CUREchiefs to cancer patients worldwide!

With the help of several hundred dedicated volunteers throughout the United States, we have touched so many lives with the CUREchief.

Our Motto, "Caring People Brought Together Through Fabric"has come to life.

Every day I am fortunate enough to witness these "Caring People" in action!
I receive emails and hand-written notes constantly from people (most of them strangers) that have received a CUREchief.  This is the stuff that keeps me going,  and my passion grows stronger everyday.

I truly thank all of you, I could not have done this without you~

Continue to spread the word~

"We never know how or when we might touch another life"SANDY CENTORINO

Never take for granted one small gesture or act of kindness, that you could perform,
I never imagined that one simple triangle of fabric sent to my friend Patti would change the world~

My sincere thanks to all of you for your continued support in our mission and for taking part in bringing HOPE to cancer patients worldwide.

Warm & Fuzzy Wishes,
Sandy
